A second weighbridge deck was recently added to an existing weighbridge to allow B-Double trucks to be weighed in a single weighing transaction.
Accuweigh’s Newcastle branch installed a second weighbridge deck measuring 10 metres long to the existing 20 metre long weighbridge at a food processing plant in Cardiff, NSW.
The extended weighbridge eliminates the need for split weighing of long trucks – a process which requires the truck and trailer(s) to be weighed in two halves then adding the acquired weights. Not only is this process time consuming, but it is prone to errors if the weighbridge approaches are not totally level and in the same plane as the weighbridge for the entire length of the truck trailer(s) overhanging the weighbridge during the weighings.
To further enhance weighbridge operation, Accuweigh’s IT8000 digital summing indicator that is capable of simultaneously displaying the weights of both individual weighbridge decks and the total weight was installed. Separately displaying the trailer and & truck weights allows overloaded axle groups to be readily identified which assists with eliminating overloading fines.
The foundation of the new weighbridge section was grafted onto the end of the existing weighbridge to provide a seamless transition between both weighbridge decks. The existing load cells from the original weighbridge deck were terminated into the first load cell input of the IT8000 digital weight indicator while the load cells of the new deck were terminated into the second load cell input.
